Smith-Berry Winery Celebrates Derby with Dinner and Bluegrass Music
Mary will prepare the special meal from recipes in "Sarah Fritschner's Derby Start to Finish," (Butler Books, 2006), which, she says, "is my favorite cookbook." The menu will be Asian beef tenderloin, cheesy ziti, roasted asparagus, blue cheese coleslaw, strawberry feta spinach salad, Mary's French bread, Cissy Gregg's buttermilk pound cake with caramel sauce, chocolate cherry bars, and chocolate chess bars. Author Sarah Fritschner, will be on hand to sign books. A Louisville native, Sarah was food editor of the "Louisville Times" and "The Courier-Journal" for more than 24 years, during which time she wrote about all manner of Derby entertaining, from boat race parties to balloon race breakfasts. Her book contains menus and practical recipes for Oaks Day dinner, Derby Day brunch and how to feed a crowd for several days, among others. Books will be available for sale. Steve Cooley's Bluegrass Band will begin at 7 p.m. The dinner and music will be in the Amyx Gallery. The cost is $29.95. Smith-Berry Wines may be purchased separately. We grow cattle, sheep and hay on our 180 acres, in addition to our wine grapes. We do all of the cooking for events and raise some of the food we serve. Other food products are purchased as close to home as possible. More about our family, |
