Our Livestock Operations
Smith Farm raises a cross of Angus and Charolais cattle.
We are entering a new venture of raising Cheviot Sheep to mingle in our vineyard to help keep the grass in check without mechanical mowing or herbicides.
We are also raising a small number of chickens in the vineyard to help with pest control. Our free range chickens will also provide fresh eggs to serve at events. Egg whites from our chickens will also be used as a fining agent for our red wines, reducing harsher tannins and imparting a silkiness to the wine.
All our livestock are raised using organic principles including management intensive grazing and are not given antibiotics or hormones.
Like all Kentucky Farms, we do have a horse named "Jack", A Tennessee Walker. (Mary's horse)
