Cooking at Smith-Berry Winery

The cooking we do at Smith-Berry Winery for private and public events brings together some of the things that we think are important to responsible and pleasant lives, taking care of our land, our neighbors, and ourselves.

We do all of the cooking here and raise some of the food we serve ourselves. We’ve gardened organically since we moved here in 1981 and continue to do so. What we don’t raise ourselves we buy as close to home as possible.

We can now get a lot of the produce we need in Henry County from our friends Cardin and Courtney at A PLACE ON EARTH FARM just a couple of miles from here. We make good use of The Henry County Farmers’ Market that is held every Saturday morning on the courthouse lawn in New Castle.

Chuck buys meat for grilling from Kentucky producers who ethically raise their animals. For very special occasions we serve our friends Judy and Larry Schad’s CABRIOLE goat cheeses from Indiana.

We have our own grass finished beef cattle. We are adding sheep to our newly fenced vineyard to do our mowing for us and look forward to adding lamb to our menu.

After being without chickens for the last four years we’ve found ourselves missing them and will soon have a flock of layers to supply us with eggs for baking, corn pudding, grits, and more.

I cook for events the way I have always cooked for my family, using old family recipes and ingredients that represent a real, local economy.

Please check our schedule page for upcoming events and, or, call if you have questions. We look forward to cooking for you soon!
